Boys Club at D/L

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

DOPOLAVORO GOLAB & ERA STUDIO present BOYS CLUB, curated by Martin Butler and Giorgio Bartoli. The exhibition “Boys Club” is a group exhibition combining video, photography, fashion and performance that takes  a fresh view on the portrayal of the adolescent male in contemporary society. The Dutch photographers Joost Vandebrug and  Bart Julius Peters,  the Canadian artist  Kyle Tryhorn, the young French photographer Florent Routoulp / Chocolat_Poire and Korean fashion designer Hyun Yeu, represent several generations from three continents that all share  elements of this fascination within their work.
Some times nostalgic, sometimes romantic, sometimes explicit,  sometimes dealing with the reality of the struggle of  redefining identity during the transition from boyhood to manhood,  but always engaging. “Boys Club” is an homage to  that  fleeting moment of  the blossoming, the blossoming that exists for the shortest time…

“Uncage the colours
Unfurl the flag
Luck just kissed you hello
When you’re a boy
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out”

VICTORIA BARTLETT and VPL
A candid look at the anatomical fascination of
VISIBLE PANTY LINE

“Victoria Bartlett is significant because she thinks not just about the way a woman might look, but about the ways that women might dress. Her work flows from a profound comprehension that clothes are like another layer of skin–an exoskeleton that can be layered on or off to suit the purpose of the day, or the moment. She resists the easy categorization of underpinnings vs. apparel, activewear vs. daywear, and so on, and in so doing, seems to me to see into the future of style.”

In September, during Milan Fashion Week, Dopolavoro will host Victoria Bartlett’s show -  an exposition of inspirations and concepts which delineate VPL (Visible Panty Line). Through the gathering of images, film, and sculptural specialty clothing, the pieces will reveal a candid dialogue of anatomical fascination between Victoria and other artists including Steven Klein, Mark Borthwick, David Armstrong and Jack Pierson, just to name a few…
