” I always had this nightmare of aging without realising it was happening, to just realise one day how time has slipped out of my hands and that I’m late. I came to New York to see whether I can become what I think I am. If I won’t make it I will have learnt who I am and will finally be at peace.“ D.B. interview on http://www.notiziedanewyork.com/2009/07/davide-balliano-new-york-e-la-milano.html
Babydisco press review on L’Officiel Hommes Italia: ” An only-for-kids project in Milan’s Dopolavoro gallery. The installation was conceived with the aim to stimulate the child towards new multisensorial experiences, based upon the interaction with sound, colours and lights to be lived as an extension of his innate desire to play. A multicoloured disco ball, djs dressed up as rabbits, shiny stars and games flavoured by music, all had an essential role in entertaining the little ones, who happily free from parents and babysitters, had the chance to enjoy the exhilerating experience of a baby version of clubbing. An invitation and a stimulus to take advantage of the educational potential of music united with artistic creativity”. Susanna Cucco
A story published on the skin of 2095 volunteers. By Shelley Jackson.
“Each participant must agree to have one word of the story tattooed upon his or her body. The text will be published nowhere else, and the author will not permit it to be summarized, quoted, described, set to music, or adapted for film, theater, television or any other medium. The full text will be known only to participants, who may, but need not choose to establish communication with one another. In the event that insufficiant participants come forward to complete the first and only edition of the story, the incomplete version will be considered definitive.”
What’s a sweet way of competing with a 6 yr old? Drawing of course! The problem is when you realise he’s better than you at sketching the animal kingdom. Try checking out this link on flickr ; you may find it quite amusing to see what happens when a simple gemoetrical shape actually transforms into a living thing!
That night, there was nothing left apart from a panorama of empty beer bottles around the space, the questionnaires you creatively answered to, and a contagious whim of enthusiasm. Not one sole number of Link was left behind! We want to thank you because it was a success. For any questions / info / gossip, contact us at our usual address press@dopolavorogolab.com.
On the 6th May 2009 Dopolavoro presents: Link 7 / Mash-up Television: La tv del remix, del riciclo, del riuso - which means the tv of remix, recycling and reuse “..archive retrievement, creation of new meanings and nostalgia for the television of the past”. Link is a magazine which proposes themes, ideas, models to follow (or acutely avoid), by hinting as to what’s going to be found in each issue through it’s cover story. Analysing and suggesting the world that lies behind television, Link provides us with a very fascinating point of view of the box with the greatest hypnotic power of contemporary history. Just show up & enjoy! Check out the site http://www.link.mediaset.it/ and the blog http://linkmagazine.blogspot.com/
“BabyBabyBaby is a Mexico City-based contemporary culture magazine launched in 2004. We like to think that it’s the kind of magazine that happens when a group of friends get together after school and put together pages from their diaries, poems and friends photos and drawings in a sort of scrapbook, pasted up with everything that inspires them, reflecting their personality, their innocence, their way of seeing life”. This is THE Dopolavoro we like.
“SANG BLEU is a fully self-financed project based on every contributor’s and every reader’s personal generosity and belief that there is some sense to it all. Unfortunately, love and time is not everything. Printing paper, hosting websites, making phone calls costs money”. Help it live on http://sangbleu.com/blog/
Nuke is space for creation and expression. This art magazine shows artists gathering to draw and define a crude portrait of today’s generation. A ‘Polluted generation, the late arrivals’: the image of a crew that is ‘post’ everything. Nuke evokes the world through serious issues such as: global capitalism and political despotism with underlying themes of historical change, economic forces, death, guilt, destruction and beauty, as opposed to work that is myopically focused with the internal concerns of art making.
Dopolavoro Golab will be universal but not superficial, it will be everyone's but it won't be owned by the mass, it will be for those who want to play seriously, it will be for the fearless, and for all those who want to dwell even if ever so briefly, in the joyful and fascinating cradle of a normal vanguard.
